Following up on our Hot Pepper Venture, here’s a first peek at our new garlic bundles with Cayenne peppers. I love the look of these guys, a true statement of commitment to full flavour food. And to top it off, Cayenne peppers also provide a boatload of health benefits. Like garlic, cayenne has anti-fungal properties, but it also helps relieve symptoms when suffering from stuffed up sinuses due to cold or flu. More peppers will show up at markets in the next few weeks!
Now that harvest is done, our farm workload shifts to bringing our garlic to market. Daily tasks include cleaning, braiding, peeling, trimming, and the making of our black and smoked garlic products. With many market days, festivals and farm events on the calendar, these jobs will occupy most of our time until Thanksgiving. This weekend is one of our busiest of the season with Newmarket’s Garlic is Great Festival on Saturday morning on top of our three weekend markets (Rosseau on Friday, Orillia downtown on Saturday and Midland on Sundays).
It’s been a crazy busy and rewarding week because harvest has started and we have dug up some great garlic. The harvest kicked off with the Artichoke garlics, our softnecks. We grow three varieties of these long storing garlics. Sicilian Gold and Inchellium Red are our mainstays.
